Record Day for Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport
TORONTO, Aug. 2, 2013 /CNW/ - The Toronto Port Authority (TPA) announced today that Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport will see a record number of passengers passing through its doors.
Upwards of 6,000 passengers will depart from Billy Bishop Airport today. When arriving passengers are included, over 10,000 passengers are expected to travel in and out of the airport today with approximately 20 percent using Billy Bishop as their connecting airport. Many more thousands are expected throughout the long weekend.
"Today's record passenger counts represent the busiest commercial day ever for Billy Bishop Airport," said Geoffrey Wilson, TPA President and CEO. "It is a reminder of how much Torontonians and the City's tourists love this airport. We're delighted that so many people are choosing their city airport and we are very happy to serve them this holiday weekend."
Added Mark McQueen, Toronto Port Authority Chairman: "This peak traffic weekend is another reminder why it was so important to proceed with the privately-funded pedestrian tunnel last year, as our ferry service is limited to how many passengers it can serve in an hour. We knew the airport's popularity still had room to grow, and these customer numbers are living up to that expectation."
Last year Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport welcomed over two million passengers and is expected to see almost 2.5 million in 2013, of which approximately 500,000 are estimated to be interconnecting passengers.
