Redline Communications Lands First Wireless Digital Oil Field Project in South America
-- Deal with Major South American Oil Producer Expands Redline's Global Footprint--
TORONTO, April 30, 2013 /CNW/ - Redline Communications (www.rdlcom.com Group Inc. TSX: RDL), a leading provider of broadband wireless solutions for machine-to-machine (M2M) communications, today announced that their rugged industrial wireless system was chosen to create a wireless infrastructure for a major oil producer in South America.
As in other parts of the world, the oil & gas industry in South America has turned to Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) techniques to increase production, safety, and to reduce the environmental impact in their mature oil fields. Key to the success and safety of these field enhancements is the need for secure and reliable high speed IP data networks - a network with more performance than could be delivered using satellite.
Redline's powerful wireless infrastructure system, already in use in dozens of oil fields in the USA and the Middle East, will connect hundreds of access nodes, which in turn will link thousands of M2M devices across a 230 square mile (596 square Km) oil field in the tropical jungles of South America. The system will be capable of delivering the increasingly high performance requirements that these complex networks require, and is able to accommodate virtually any networked device or application, not just today but in the years to come.
"We are thrilled to be providing a wireless solution for our first major oil field in South America, and we expect that it will be one of many for this customer as they have several fields in the region," said Carl MacKinnon, vice president Worldwide Sales. "This win is part of our stated growth plan: develop relationships with new customers to prove the value of our networks, expand with them in the same field as more services and connectivity is needed, then expand to other fields and eventually offer more products and services to them as we learn more about their unique needs."
This customer is Redline's first major oil and gas installation in South America. It is also this customer's first oil field to be powered by Redline's wireless solution, and the Company is working to ensure that it is the first of many.
Redline's advanced wireless broadband system, which leads the industry in reliability, distance, capacity and low-latency, allows personnel to securely remotely monitor and control oilfield production - including the ability to capture data in real time from thousands of M2M sensors at remote sites.
The Virtual Fiber™ network will be built using Redline's nomadic RAS platform, RDL-3000 and eLTE-MT systems. All are rugged, reliable and secure wireless broadband equipment designed by Redline for harsh environments and engineered and built to the exacting standards required by the energy sector.
Redline's Virtual Fiber network system offers the ability to instantly adjust to the living oilfield as a whole -- from individual well production, to drilling rigs, to the pressure of a part or all of the reserve itself -- based on a variety of sensor data, including pressure, temperature, and flow. This capability allows the oil company to optimally run each well or each drill, maximizing drilling efficiency and uptime while minimizing breakdowns from drilling too quickly through hard rock or other obstacles that could hamper the drilling activity. This communication ability also moves with the drilling rigs, with Redline's RAS system delivering instant secure communication without any system realignment, even as the units move from location to location.
