Refugee protection and the challenges of solutions
OTTAWA, March 18 /CNW Telbec/ - The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Mr. António Guterres will address the Canadian news media at a Breakfast meeting at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, 24 March 2010 in the O'Connor Room at the National Press Club, Sheraton Ottawa Hotel.
Mr. António Guterres will talk about Refugee Protection and the Challenges of Solutions that will be followed by a Q & A session.
About the UN High Commissioner for Refugees António Guterres
António Guterres is the 10th UN High Commissioner for Refugees. A former Portuguese Prime Minister, Guterres was elected on June 15, 2005 by the UN General Assembly for a five-year term.
As High Commissioner for Refugees, Mr. Guterres is Head of one of the world's largest humanitarian organizations. UNHCR has twice won the Nobel Peace Prize. As a United Nations Agency headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, it has over 6,800 staff members of which some 6,000 are located in 118 countries worldwide with a total of some 260 geographic locations. As the UN Refugee Agency, UNHCR currently provides international protection and assistance to millions of refugees, returnees, internally displaced people and stateless people totaling some 34.4 million persons while continuing to seek permanent solutions for them.
