Government of Canada supports project of Bas-Saint-Laurent organization
MATANE, QC, May 24, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions (CED)
Key local stakeholders have long been asking for concrete, sustainable measures to improve community and recreational infrastructure. The Government of Canada is proud to invest in projects such as the one by the Club de Yacht de Matane, which contribute to the strength and vitality of all regions of the country.
Acting on behalf of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development and Minister responsible for CED, Rémi Massé, Member of Parliament for Avignon–La Mitis–Matane–Matapédia, announced that the Club de Yacht de Matane (website in French only) has been granted $120,059 in financial assistance, in the form of a non-repayable contribution, for the refurbishment and expansion of the marina's network of floating docks and landing stages (pontoons).
With its landing stages and terrace, the Matane marina welcomes visitors daily from June to September and plays a key role in the City of Matane's local economy. The funding was awarded through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program (CIP150), under the theme "Proud of our parks, trails and watercourses." This investment will help the Club de Yacht de Matane replace the floating wood pontoons in 48 current locations with new galvanized steel landing stages and add another 10 to create new spots for visitors. The project will help preserve and improve the quality of the Matane marina, allowing it to welcome a greater number of recreational boaters and visitors.
CED is one of the six regional development agencies under the responsibility of the Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister of Innovation, Science and Economic Development.
