Regina Revitalization Initiative - Stadium Project
Design details announced
REGINA, May 22, 2014 /CNW/ - This morning the City of Regina, the Province of Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Roughrider Football Club announced the design details for a new stadium as part of the Regina Revitalization Initiative.
The new facility will be named Mosaic Stadium and will have a standard capacity of 33,000, and will be expandable to 40,000. The stadium will be built by PCL Construction Management Inc., which includes HKS Sports & Entertainment, B+H Architects and TD Securities.
"This is a very exciting time for our community and marks a significant milestone for the Regina Revitalization Initiative. We are absolutely thrilled with the design of our new stadium. It's an iconic gathering place for our community and is just the start of a revitalization effort that will influence and shape our city for generations to come," commented Mayor Michael Fougere.
Construction of the stadium will begin in June 2014 with substantial completion expected in August of 2016. The first Rider game in the new stadium will be played in June 2017.
The stadium design includes a translucent spectator roof and open south end zone connecting the stadium to the community, creating a feeling of spaciousness, while providing an improved level of comfort for all users.
The stadium, which will be located at Evraz Place, is designed with the flexibility to host many events at different scales and capacities throughout the year. A unique feature of the stadium will be a general admission lounge, located on the west side of the facility, that will be accessible to all users.
Design features resulting in an enhanced spectator experience include: 68 per cent of seats located in a sunken lower bowl, individual seating, unobstructed views of the field from each seat and other amenities including increased concessions and washrooms.
"The opportunity to build this stadium as part of the Regina Revitalization Initiative and create this community asset in the home of the Saskatchewan Roughriders is incredible. This project has captured the imagination of our employees and we are delighted to share the design with the community and make this project a reality," commented Sean Hamelin, District Manager, PCL Construction Management Inc.
"We've designed the stadium to celebrate, reflect and enhance the infinite horizons of the city and enhance the heritage and natural landscapes of the entire province and essence of its incredible football team," said Mark A. Williams, Principal of HKS Sports & Entertainment Group.
"Today's announcement of the design and construction of our new home is one of the biggest achievements in the history of our great franchise. It's a great day for our football club, but it's an even bigger day for our fans. This will be more than a place where we'll simply play our games, this will be the modern gathering place that the city, province and all of Rider Nation deserve," said Roger Brandvold, Saskatchewan Roughrider Football Club Board Chair.
A summary of the design features of the new stadium can be found in the "Design Statement" included with this media release.
