REGINA, SK, June 18, 2013 /CNW/ - The city's main used oil materials drop-off EcoCentre, closed since late December, has now reopened at its new location at Crown Shred and Recycling, 225 - 6th Avenue East, Regina.
In making the announcement, Merv Hey, Program Operations Manager for the Saskatchewan Association for Resource Recovery Corp (SARRC) said: "The new location for the purpose-built EcoCentre is a perfect fit for our recycling program. Crown Shred and Recycling accepts a wide range of recyclable materials and now includes used oil, used oil filters and used plastic oil containers."
With the EcoCentre on site, Crown Shred and Recycling can accept up to 500 litres of used oil per customer per visit, and the corresponding volume of filters and containers. Used oil materials can be dropped off during Crown Shred's regular operating hours of 8:00am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday, and Saturday from 9:00am to 1:00pm. Companies with larger volumes can contact a registered collector to pick up from their places of business.
During the past six months, the used oil recycling program continued being well served by ten other collection points in the city. However, these businesses can accept only small volumes of used oil, filters and plastic oil containers. There are no drum pumps available at these locations for larger volumes of used oil such as there is at Crown Shred and Recycling.
Used oil is considered one of the most potentially hazardous materials if not properly managed. Since the provincial used oil materials recycling program began in October 1997, until December 2012, it has achieved high total collection rates: 249.73 million litres of used oil; 3.95 million kilograms of oil containers; 27.71 million oil filters. All materials recovered have been recycled and reused.
SARRC manages the industry-led stewardship program for used oil materials in Saskatchewan. For information and location of the nearest collection point, visit www.usedoilrecyclingsk.com or call toll free 1-877-645-7275.
