Registration now open for #CAJ14 conference
OTTAWA, March 28, 2014 /CNW/ - The CAJ is pleased to announce that registration for its 2014 conference is now open.
The conference is scheduled to run from Friday, May 9, to Sunday, May 10, at the Holiday Inn and Suites Downtown Vancouver. Full-conference and single-day registration is available, with pricing for CAJ members, affiliate members non-members and students. A conference rate has also been set with the Holiday Inn.
"The annual conference is our premiere event, providing an opportunity for professional development and networking at a reasonable cost," CAJ president Hugo Rodrigues said. "The conference is capped by our annual CAJ Awards gala where we honour the best in Canadian journalism and hand out Canada's top investigative journalism prize, the Don McGillivray Award."
Rates for the conference — unchanged since 2012 — start at $239 plus HST for CAJ members for the full weekend, including a ticket to the awards gala. Student member rates start at $75, with single-day registration starting at $100. These rates will go up on April 26. All this information along with a link to our online registration site is posted on the main #CAJ14 page of our website.
Information about confirmed panels, workshops and sessions is already posted on our #CAJ14 event page. The @VancouverCAJ Twitter account will also be sharing relevant links and information as the conference gets closer. For the first time, the CAJ will be running a unique event open to the general public whose working title is J-Fest. It features five speakers leading a discussion on why they believe high-quality journalism is something everyone should care about.
We're honoured to have Assembly of First Nations National Chief Shawn A-in-chut Atleo as our keynote speaker Friday. Atleo will also participate in a subsequent panel discussion on media coverage of First Nations communities. Further keynote speakers will be announced as they are confirmed.
The CAJ is Canada's largest national professional organization for journalists from all media, representing over 600 members across the country. The CAJ's primary roles are to provide public-interest advocacy and high-quality professional development for its members.
