OTTAWA, April 19, 2013 /CNW/ - In a letter sent to Minister of Finance Jim Flaherty yesterday, the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada (CEP) requested that the elimination of the labour fund tax credit contained in the 2013 federal budget be reconsidered.
"We believe that the phase-out of the labour fund tax credit is an attack by the Conservative government on the workers of Québec", said Gaétan Ménard, National Secretary-treasurer of CEP, in the letter. "The cut will also prevent anyone outside of Québec from following the example of the successful models that exist in Québec by building similar funds in their province."
The letter can be found here.
The Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada (CEP) is the largest union in several key sectors of Canada's economy, including forestry, energy, telecommunications and media.
