REMEMBER THE DARK AGES: THE HARRIS-HUDAK ENERGY RECORD
QUEEN'S PARK, ON, Nov. 25 /CNW/ - Tim Hudak doesn't have a plan to keep the lights on for Ontario families & seniors, but does have a record which risked leaving everyone in the dark. Conservatives are desperate for Ontario families to forget the Harris-Hudak guardrail-to-guardrail energy policies, which left Ontarians paying more for a less reliable, dirty electricity system.
- First, they tried to force deregulation and privatization - which saw electricity prices rise over 30% in 7 short months.
- Then, when that failed, they flip-flopped and imposed an artificial price cap and stuck taxpayers with a $1-billion tab.
- All the while, the Harris-Hudak Conservative government refused to invest in Ontario's electricity systems: they more than doubled our reliance on coal, increasing climate change emissions by 124%.
- At a time when demand rose by 8%, local generation fell by 6% - the equivalent of Niagara Falls running dry. Ontario became a net-importer of electricity, at the mercy of US energy companies.
- The Harris-Hudak gang actually removed the public's ability to file freedom-of-information requests into Hydro One and then hid hundreds of thousands of sole-sourced, untendered contracts to Conservative insiders & campaign staff.
When they had the chance, the Conservatives made a mess of Ontario's energy system. Now they want to try it all over again. Ontario families & seniors just can't afford to go back to the energy dark ages with Tim Hudak and the Conservatives.
