Remembrance and Commemoration Concert to mark Noteworthy Milestones
OTTAWA, Nov. 1, 2013 /CNW/ - Cathedral Arts will present its annual Remembrance and Commemoration on Saturday, November 9th at 2:00PM at Christ Church Cathedral Ottawa, 420 Sparks Street. The event will feature the National Capital Concert Band, directed by Rocco Romeo, and guest performers, Bronwyn Thies-Thompson, soprano, and David MacAdam, tenor. Cadets from across the Capital will participate as ushers.
The Remembrance and Commemoration Concert has been a long-standing tradition for Cathedral Arts. It has brought together musical artists from across Ottawa's diverse community, and pays homage to the generations of Canadians who served their country in times of war and in times of peace.
Remembrance and Commemoration will mark a number of milestones: the 200th Anniversary of the War of 1812-15; the 95th Anniversary of the End of the Great War; the 70th anniversary of the Allied Invasion of Sicily in which Canadian soldiers played a significant role; and, the 60th Anniversary of the End of the Korean War.
The concert programme promises a balance of reflection and reminiscence, pride and celebration, introspection and reverence, as well as hope and happiness. Music will include selections from Kenneth Alford and his contemporaries, popular songs of the day that will evoke memories of times past, and rousing works of patriotism from Sir Edward Elgar and Sir Hubert Parry. The National Capital Concert Band is pleased as well to provide accompaniment to some of our city's finest vocalists for select numbers.
A portion of the proceeds of this event will be given to the Perley-Rideau Veterans' Hospital.
Tickets at $25 (Reserved), $20 (General), $10 (students) may be purchased online at www.cathedralarts.ca
