Reminder - Montréal Space for Life Architecture Competition - Finalists' Public Presentations - July 9, 10 and 11, at the Botanical Garden Français
MONTREAL, July 9, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - Montréal Space for Life invites members of the general public and media representatives to attend the finalists' presentations in the international architecture competition, on July 9, 10 and 11, 2014. The 7 finalist teams, selected in April by a highly qualified jury, will defend their designs for the Insectarium Metamorphosis, the Biodôme Renewal and the Glass Pavilion at the Botanical Garden. Inspired by the Space for Life mission and its desire to combine science, art and emotion, the three projects will stand as legacies of Montréal's 375th anniversary.
Space for Life Executive Director Charles-Mathieu Brunelle says that "with the completion of these three major architecture projects on the Space for Life site by 2017, we will have made good on our commitment to Montrealers: a space for life resolutely turned toward the 21st century; a space for life where Montrealers are invited to help reinvent our ways of moving around, inhabiting our cities, coming together and getting closer to nature."
An international competition
Committed to a creative and participatory movement aimed at reinventing our relationship with nature, Space for Life intends to create living spaces that are permeable, ecological and evolving, while meeting the highest green building standards. LEED Platinum certification will be sought, depending on the project, and Living Building Challenge certification will serve as a source of inspiration. The three projects will be unique in terms of their architecture and design and the distinctive visitor experience offered by each institution, but they will all incorporate a creative approach based on the unique Space for Life mission and vision.
The competition, intended for multidisciplinary teams of architects, Living Building Challenge and LEED certification experts, scenic designers, landscape architects and engineers, attracted 30 proposals from nine different countries, mainly Canada (Quebec) and France, when it was launched last winter. Seven finalist teams were chosen and will make their presentations over the next few days.
A rare and exceptional opportunity
The finalists' public presentations to the jury offer an exceptional opportunity to see part of a process that normally occurs behind closed doors. Anyone who wishes to attend the presentations must register on-line, at http://mtlunescodesign.com/en/inscription/visite/espacepourlavie.
Each team will have one hour, i.e. 30 minutes to present its project and 30 minutes to answer the jury's questions. All the presentations will take place at the Montréal Botanical Garden.
