Reminder - News Conference - Photo/Filming Opportunity - War Amps "CHAMPS" Set the Bar High at BC Child Amputee Seminar

VICTORIA, March 21, 2014 /CNW/ - Lincoln Davis, 3, was born a left hand amputee, and one-year-old Tytan Beckford, is missing both feet. These young amputees, of Victoria, will be joined by older Champs from across the province, who will show them how to "Set the Bar High" as they demonstrate the limbs and recreational devices they use to overcome their amputations and achieve their goals.

Where:		The Delta Ocean Pointe, 45 Songhees Road (Arbutus C and D)

Running March 21 to 23, the seminar will be a life-changing experience for Champs and their parents, covering everything from raising an amputee child, to dealing with teasing and staring, to seeing the latest developments in artificial limbs.

1:00 p.m.	–	Feature presentation "Life as a Champ": CHAMP Graduate Selena Boer,of Vancouver, speaks about the challenges of growing up missing both feet. She will describe how she overcame her amputations and explain to young Champs that they can too! (Arbutus Ballroom A)

"What Bugs Me": Open forum session where Champs talk about difficult issues they encounter like teasing, staring and "too many questions" (Arbutus Ballroom)

The War Amps Child Amputee (CHAMP) Program is built on the Winner's Circle philosophy, which encourages child amputees (Champs) to accept their amputations and develop a positive approach to challenges.
CHAMP offers comprehensive services to Canadian child amputees and their families, such as:  

• Financial assistance for artificial limbs and recreational devices
• Regional CHAMP seminars, which provide a forum for young amputees and their parents to share information and advice and see new developments in artificial limbs
• Peer counseling and emotional support through programs like Matching Mothers
