REMINDER- Bonaventure Expressway (federal section): complete closure this weekend (December 14 and 15) to complete the last phase of the worksite Français
LONGUEUIL, QC, Dec. 12, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) would like to advise road users that a section of the Bonaventure Expressway will be completely closed this weekend in order to proceed with the final phase change of the worksite as part of the major rehabilitation work carried out this year.
It is important to note an adjustment to the work schedule; the complete closure of the Bonaventure Expressway towards the Champlain Bridge will begin on Saturday at 1 p.m. and not at 8 p.m.
This closure is necessary to complete this major operation, which began last June and has enabled us to completely replace an entire section of the Bonaventure Expressway, totalling four spans and including beams, the slab, expansion joints, paving and marking, as well as the rehabilitation of pillars and pier caps.
Traffic will be very heavy during this period and road users are encouraged to avoid this section of the Bonaventure Expressway to access downtown Montreal in favour of the Jacques Cartier Bridge or the A-15 North off the Champlain Bridge, followed by the A-720 East.
It will also be much easier to leave downtown Montreal via the A-720 West or Jacques Cartier Bridge.
Roads neighbouring the Bonaventure Expressway will also be very busy during the weekend and traffic will be heavier in downtown Montreal. The police will be on site to facilitate traffic.
Once this work is completed, the Bonaventure Expressway will be entirely reopened to car traffic, with three lanes open per direction.
Special opening of the Victoria Bridge:
In order to facilitate traffic flow on Saturday evening and due to events at the Bell Centre, two southbound lanes will be specially opened on the Victoria Bridge from 8:30 p.m. to midnight on Saturday.
Outside of these periods, one lane will be open per direction on the Victoria Bridge over the weekend.
Closure schedule:
Complete closure of the Bonaventure Expressway towards Montreal from Friday, December 13, at 8:00 p.m., to Monday, December 16, at 6:00 a.m.
As of Friday at 9:00 p.m., this hindrance will result in:
- The closure of two access ramps to the Bonaventure Expressway towards Montreal (ramps C and J, access ramps via Marc-Cantin Street and Chemin des Moulins, from Friday, December 13, at 7:00 p.m., to Monday, December 16, at 6:00 a.m.
- The following short-term closures will also be required (during the period from Friday, December 13, at 8:00 p.m., to Saturday, December 14, at 6:00 a.m.):
- Closure of Exit 60 on the A-15 North
- Closure of Exit 60 on the A-15 South
- Alternating lane closure on the Exit 58 ramp on the A-15 North
Summary of detours:
Coming from the Champlain Bridge: Motorists on the Bonaventure Expressway heading towards Montreal will take a detour via Exit 2 (Pierre-Dupuy) (Exit 2 of the Bonaventure Expressway/Chemin des Moulins/Riverside/Mill/De la Commune West/McGill/Viger West/University).
Please note that during the complete closure towards downtown Montreal, the traffic lights at the intersection of Pierre-Dupuy and Chemin des Moulins will be "on green."
