TORONTO, July 12, 2012 /CNW/ - The CAW will release final results from a groundbreaking study examining the impacts of job loss on manufacturing workers during a telephone press conference today at 10:30 a.m.

CAW President Ken Lewenza will discuss the results of the study of 260 laid off workers along with study author Sam Vrankulj of the McMaster University School of Labour Studies.

The study is part of a three-year Worker Adjustment Tracking Project focused on the real-life job market experiences of laid off manufacturing workers in Ontario as they looked for new work. It offers a unique perspective on the economic impact of job loss on households as well as the worker's direct experience with job search, retraining and the challenges workers face in finding good new jobs.

Over the past decade, Canada has lost over 500,000 manufacturing jobs, including nearly 300,000 across Ontario communities.

This is the final report of the CAW's worker tracking project. An interim phase of the study was released in 2010.
