Globally respected organization, The Remix Project, celebrates 20 years of dedication to Toronto's youth with the launch of their new permanent home.
TORONTO, May 14, 2019 /CNW/ - The Remix Project is proud to announce the launch of their new flagship home at Daniels Waterfront- City of the Arts, located at 130 Queens Quay E, Toronto ON. The Remix community welcomes their 15th cohort of artists and entrepreneurs to their permanent home with a ceremonial ribbon cutting on Tuesday, June 11 commencing at 10:00 am.
This expansion and launch of the new 5000 sqft. state of the art flagship is a milestone and major accomplishment for The Remix Project, as well as the city's Toronto Music Strategy. After years of hard work and renting space, Remix's purpose-driven vision has come to fruition. Home to accessible programs, equipment, and resources for young adults from marginalized communities, this new facility marks 20 years of hard work and dedication to youth in the Greater Toronto Area.
The purchase of the Remix Project's new 3.5 million dollar home has been made possible by kind contributions from the City of Toronto, the Province of Ontario, Ministries of Tourism, Culture, and Sport, as well as The Government of Canada, by way of the Canadian Cultural Spaces Fund of Canadian Heritage, along with the generous support and guidance of Daniels Corporation, and generous donations from private sector and family foundations.
"The success of The Remix Project is a great example of a partnership between the City of Toronto and an organization that is making an impact in the community. Supporting The Remix Project ensures that people have access to channels that allow them to showcase and foster their creative talent and that Toronto can continue to develop its music sector," said Mayor John Tory.
Over the years, Remix has acted as an incubator for some of today's top creative talent, housed in-studio conversations with people of impact, collaborated with like-minded charities and campaigns worldwide, and produced albums and projects for globally recognized artists. Notable names in the remix community include alumni Jessie Reyez, Future the Prince, and Ebony "Wondagurl" Oshunrinde as well as mentors Noah "40" Shabib, Majid Jordan, Mustafa the Poet, Bo1da and Daniel Daley of DVSN.
"...Remix became my family, and you push each other...you meet people you otherwise wouldn't have met and it changed my life"- Jessie Reyez, Remix Alumni Round 11.0, Recording Arts
"The Remix Project plays an integral part in uplifting the city and giving kids opportunity…. It's where I started making a lot of my early music. It's pretty much where I shaped my career, I grew up in Remix Project." - Drake, Internationally Celebrated Recording Artist
Through proof of concept, diligent programming efforts, and belief in the city's most vulnerable and talented youth, Remix started a movement that has impacted the lives of countless individuals; giving them a platform to showcase their talent, collaborate with other artists, and level the playing field to further their formal education. Remix has made community the focal point of their mission, ensuring that everyone, despite the disengagement from the system, has an opportunity to succeed and create their own destiny.
