VANCOUVER, May 12, 2015 /CNW/ - The stage is set in Niagara Falls, ON, for Rendez-vous Canada, the Canadian Tourism Commission (CTC)'s leading international tourism marketplace. From May 26-29, more than 1,500 travel-industry professionals will be at the Scotiabank Convention Centre, looking to close deals and make connections to drive Canada's visitor economy forward.
At the heart of the sold-out event will be members of the Canadian tourism industry: small- and medium-size business owners, whose operations form the backbone of Canada's visitor economy. For the first time ever, the Aboriginal Tourism Association of Canada is bringing 17 First Nations tourism organizations and businesses from across the country to RVC.
RVC is a powerful magnet for international tour operators and wholesalers who seek out the innovative and authentic tourism products, services and packages that can give them a competitive edge. This year's marketplace is taking place in Niagara Falls, one of the world's most iconic and inspirational settings and visited by more than 12 million travellers every year.
"The CTC is a key partner in the Federal Tourism Strategy, and by coordinating events such as Rendez-vous Canada, it enhances Canada's tourism brand abroad and positions Canada's tourism small and medium-size businesses to take advantage of international growth opportunities, increase revenues and create jobs," says the Honourable Maxime Bernier, Minister of State (Small Business and Tourism, and Agriculture).
RVC 2015 will set a tremendous pace. International buyers will complete almost 24,000 pre-scheduled face-to-face business appointments with over 921 Canadian sellers of tourism experiences and products from coast to coast to coast. Of the 453 buyers from 28 countries around the world, Canada and the US lead the pack with a total of 148 buyers, while the UK has upped its numbers from 44 to 53 buyers this year over 2014 and Mexico from 8 to 14 buyers. China leads the emerging markets once again with 52 buyers. The contracts signed at RVC help support SMEs across the country.
The lively Inside Track session will again equip Canadian sellers with the latest intelligence delivered by specialists from CTC's 10 leisure markets, supporting them in their bid to successfully compete abroad.
Tourism is the world's fifth fastest-growing industry, with over one billion international travellers, $1.53 trillion in global revenues and 5% growth per year. Forecasts for the sector remain strong with the pace of growth sustained over the next decade, driven in part by the volume of travellers from China, one of CTC's major international markets.
"The continuing momentum within global tourism presents significant opportunity for economic prosperity," says David Goldstein, CTC President and CEO. "RVC provides one of the primary platforms to help Canadian tourism entrepreneurs from across the country gain access to the experts and expertise needed to succeed in the global marketplace. RVC offers them a gateway to this enormous potential for growth."
