MONTRÉAL, July 16, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - Montréal Space for Life is pleased to announce the appointment of René Pronovost as Director of the Montréal Botanical Garden. Mr. Pronovost successfully completed all the steps in a rigorous selection process and will now head up an institution ranked as one of the world's five leading botanical gardens.
An agronomist by training, head of the Horticulture and Collections Division of the Botanical Garden since 2009, and acting Director of the Garden for the past year, Mr. Pronovost steered the recent heritage makeover of the Reception Gardens and the organization of the horticulture dimension of Mosaïcultures Internationales de Montréal in 2013. Prior to joining the Garden, he accumulated 20 years of valuable experience in Quebec City, where he was one of the driving forces behind the re-naturalization of the Saint-Charles River.
Mr. Pronovost won the 2015 Frédérick Todd Award from the Association des architectes paysagistes du Québec, and is known for his dynamic, creative and rigorous approach. His extensive knowledge of the Botanical Garden and of horticulture are sure to be major assets in fulfilling his mandate of implementing the Montréal Botanical Garden's outreach, conservation, research and education missions as part of Montréal Space for Life.
Mr. Pronovost is taking over from Gilles Vincent, who was at the Garden's helm for 13 years.
