Reports on Plans and Priorities: Prudent management of taxpayers' money
OTTAWA, March 25 /CNW Telbec/ - The Honourable Stockwell Day, President of the Treasury Board and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway, today tabled in the House of Commons reports on plans and priorities for 2010-11 on behalf of 97 federal departments and agencies. These reports describe the spending priorities of each department and agency of the federal government (excluding Crown corporations).
"As the Government shifts from stimulus to restraint, the Treasury Board Secretariat will lead by example," said Minister Day. "We will limit spending to concentrate on the priorities of Canadians, increase the efficiency of government and improve the delivery of services to citizens."
This year, the Government of Canada will launch the fourth strategic review of direct program spending. To date, the reviews have identified ongoing savings totalling $1.3 billion. These savings were reinvested to support other budget priorities and to meet the needs of Canadians.
"These reviews are designed to ensure that every Government program is achieving results for Canadians. For the 2010 round of strategic reviews, the Government will review departmental spending even more aggressively with a view to increasing such savings."
Reports on plans and priorities are forward-looking documents that provide expenditure plans over a three-year period.
