Request for Proposals Issued for Hurontario LRT

MISSISSAUGA, ON, Aug. 17, 2017 /CNW/ - Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and Metrolinx have issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) to three shortlisted teams to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the Hurontario Light Rail Transit project.

A request for qualifications issued in October 2016 shortlisted the top three teams based on their construction, design, operation and maintenance capability, experience, qualified personnel and financial capacity to deliver a project of this size and scope.

The shortlisted teams and their prime team members are:

Teams have been invited to respond to the RFP and will begin preparing proposals that detail how they will deliver the project. Upon evaluating the proposals received, IO and Metrolinx expect to award the contract in 2018.

A fairness monitor will oversee the entire procurement process.

The Hurontario LRT project includes:

• Approximately 20 kilometres of new dedicated rapid transit between Port Credit GO Station in Mississauga to the Gateway Terminal at Steeles Avenue in Brampton
• 22 stops with connections to GO Transit's Milton and Lakeshore West rail lines, Mississauga MiWay, Brampton Transit, Brampton Züm and the Mississauga Transitway
• A maintenance and storage facility for the light rail vehicles at Highway 407

Quick Facts:

• Construction is anticipated to start in 2018, with an estimated in-service date in 2022.
• The Hurontario LRT project is being delivered using IO's Alternative Financing and Procurement (AFP) delivery model. AFP transfers appropriate project risks to the private sector.
• Metrolinx has been working closely with the Cities of Mississauga and Brampton and the Region of Peel to integrate their transit system standards and requirements into the new LRT project.
• The Hurontario LRT is an example of the Ontario government's commitment to invest in priority rapid transit to create an integrated transit system throughout the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA).
