HAMILTON, ON, Sept. 11, 2012 /CNW/ - Infrastructure Ontario and Hamilton Health Sciences Corporation have issued a request for qualifications to design, build and finance the new McMaster Children's Treatment Centre. The state-of-the-art facility will be built on Wellington Street across from the Regional Rehabilitation Centre.
The building will be fully accessible and will include an outdoor wheeling track, a therapeutic playground and physiotherapy space. The new site will bring together a number of programs that are currently located at Hamilton Health Sciences' Chedoke campus, including:
- autism services
- child and youth mental health programs
- developmental pediatrics and rehabilitation programs
- prosthetic and orthotic services
Together, these programs accommodate 70,000 visits annually. The new centre will provide family-focused service and individualized programming based on the needs of children and their families.
The request for qualifications is the first step in the procurement process to select a team to design, build and finance the project. Submissions will be reviewed to pre-qualify project teams with the design and construction experience as well as the qualified personnel and financial strength to deliver a project of this size and complexity. These teams will then be invited to respond to a request for proposals, which is expected to be released in the spring of 2013.
Infrastructure Ontario and the Ministry of Children and Youth Services are working with Hamilton Health Sciences Corporation to build the new McMaster Children's Treatment Centre, which will remain publicly owned and controlled.
