RES Canada Announces Construction of 20MW of Ontario FIT Solar Projects for Canadian Solar
MONTREAL, Dec. 10, 2013 /CNW/ - Renewable Energy Systems Canada Inc. (RES Canada), a leader in the construction of solar and wind projects across Canada, is pleased to announce that it will be constructing two 10 megawatt (MW) solar photovoltaic (PV) facilities for Canadian Solar Solutions Inc. ("Canadian Solar"). The Mighty Solar and Taylor Kidd projects qualify for the province's FIT (feed-in-tariff) program and are scheduled for completion in 2014.
At the peak of construction activity, each project will have more than 250 skilled workers on site. The Mighty Solar project is located near the town of Chesterville, and the Taylor Kidd project is located near the town of Napanee.
"We are pleased to have RES Canada constructing these two projects," said Shawn Qu, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Canadian Solar. "Their established Ontario construction teams, combined with experienced on-site project management, give us confidence that these projects will be well built."
The electricity from Mighty Solar and Taylor Kidd will be sold under the 20-year feed-in-tariff contract with the Ontario Power Authority, and together the projects are expected to provide enough clean, renewable energy to power approximately 4,000 average homes in the province.
"RES Canada is pleased to be constructing our second and third projects for Canadian Solar," said Peter Clibbon, Vice President of Development for RES Canada. "The Mighty Solar and Taylor Kidd projects will add to Ontario's growing fleet of solar PV installations, further driving economic development in the province."
RES Canada is serving as the balance of plant contractor for Mighty Solar and Taylor Kidd, and the addition of the projects brings RES Canada's Ontario solar FIT construction portfolio to 70MW. The company also has a wind construction portfolio of more than 670MW in Canada, which includes the 270MW South Kent Wind project, Ontario's largest wind farm. The company recently completed construction of the Montana-Alberta Tie-Line (MATL) transmission line, a 345km high-voltage power line between Lethbridge, AB and Great Falls, MT.
