(RES <location>Canada</location>), a leader in the development and construction of renewable energy projects in <location>Canada</location>, announced that it has entered into a Framework Agreement with REpower Systems AG (REpower), as part of the joint venture Saint-Laurent Energies Inc., to purchase up to 477 turbines for delivery between 2011 and 2015 for five wind projects in <location>Quebec</location>.</p> <pre> (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/20091126/DA17386LOGO) </pre> <p>The Agreement is signed alongside EDF-Energies Nouvelles S.A. (EDF-EN) for projects totaling 954 MW being developed by Saint-Laurent Energies Inc., a <location>Montreal</location> based wind energy company jointly owned by RES <location>Canada</location> Inc., EDF EN <location>Canada</location> Inc and Hydromega Services Inc. It will result in the delivery of turbines rated at 2 MW capacity apiece for which components will be fabricated in <location>Quebec</location> by subcontractors to REpower.</p> <p/> <p>"RES <location>Canada</location> is pleased to have reached this milestone in our <location>Quebec</location> activities," said Peter Clibbon, Vice-President of RES <location>Canada</location>. "We will assist Saint-Laurent Energies on the completion of permitting and we will work closely with <location>Quebec</location> and municipal authorities to bring these sustainable energy projects to the construction phase."</p> <p/> <p>RES <location>Canada</location> will serve as the project constructor for the 954 MW of projects. As such, RES <location>Canada</location> will hire and supervise a wide range of local and provincial subcontractors for various specialized construction services.</p> <p/> <p>"RES <location>Canada</location> will build these projects, working together with <location>Quebec</location> subcontractors. Construction will bring considerable economic benefits in the form of jobs and local economic activity to nearby communities," said Clibbon.</p> <p/> <p>The announcement is the next major step forward since the signing of Power Purchase Contracts with Hydro-Quebec Distribution, announced in June of 2008, following a province-wide 2,000 MW open tender. Once operational, the energy produced will supply more than 250,000 homes or just fewer than 700,000 people with renewable wind energy. Once completed, the development will represent a total investment exceeding <money>$2 billion</money> in <location>Quebec</location>.</p> <p/> <p>Renewable Energy Systems <location>Canada</location> Inc. (RES <location>Canada</location>) was founded in 2003 and is based in <location>Montreal</location>, <location>Quebec</location>. RES <location>Canada</location> is active with the development and construction services in most Canadian provinces. RES <location>Canada</location> is also the developer, constructor and owner of 198 MW of wind farm projects in Ontario, which were awarded Power Purchase Agreements in <chron>January 2009</chron> in the Ontario RESIII tender, and will begin construction in 2010.</p> <p/> <p>Renewable Energy Systems Americas Inc. (RES Americas), is a fully-integrated renewable energy company that develops, constructs, owns, and operates projects across the <location>United States</location> (US), <location>Mexico</location> and the Caribbean. RES Americas has more than 4,000 MW of construction projects, which represents approximately 14% of the operating installed wind capacity in the US, and has over 12,500 MW in development. RES Americas' corporate office is located in Broomfield, CO with regional offices located in <location>Austin, TX</location>; <location>Portland</location>, OR; <location>Minneapolis</location>, MN. RES Americas continues to seek new locations for wind and solar projects as well as opportunities to participate in other forms of renewable energy.
