HARBOUR MAIN, NL, Aug. 6, 2018 /CNW/ - The governments of Canada and Newfoundland and Labrador are committed to investing in local infrastructure that ensures Canadians and their families have access to modern, reliable roads, and water and wastewater services that meet their needs.
Ken McDonald, Member of Parliament for Avalon, on behalf of the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities; the Honourable Dwight Ball, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador; and his Worship, Mike Doyle, Mayor of Harbour Main-Chapel's Cove-Lakeview, today announced more than $6.9 million in joint support for water and wastewater and road improvements in 11 municipalities across the Avalon Peninsula.
The Government of Canada is contributing more than $2.2 million through the Small Communities Fund. The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador is providing over $3.6 million to these projects. The municipalities involved will provide more than $1 million in total.
Thanks to this support, families and businesses in the Avalon Peninsula will benefit from modern and reliable water and wastewater systems that improve water quality, reduce future blockages and repairs, and extend to unserviced areas. These system upgrades will safeguard the health and well-being of residents, protect waterways and preserve local ecosystems for years to come.
Spaniard's Bay will also receive funding for resurfacing and culvert replacement along Brown's Road, increasing road safety for drivers.
