HAMILTON, ON, Nov. 22, 2017 /CNW/ - Long defined by its resiliency and determination, the Hamilton-Niagara region is making strong economic gains, posting strong employment growth this year. At the vanguard of employers leading the charge are winners of this year's Hamilton-Niagara's Top Employers competition, announced this morning in The Hamilton Spectator.
"From software to steel manufacturing to renowned post-secondary institutions, the economy in the Hamilton-Niagara region is diversifying, bringing exciting new employment opportunities to the region," says Anthony Meehan, Publisher of the Canada's Top 100 Employers project, which manages the Hamilton-Niagara competition.
Among this year's winners is ArcelorMittal Dofasco, a long-standing employer with roots in the community that supports its workforce through pension contributions and maternity-leave top-up payments. Also finding a home on this year's list is Burlington-based Adlib Software, a SME that provides a unique no-limit vacation policy to its employees.
"Employers selected for this year's Hamilton-Niagara list combine traditional HR benefits with new and innovative programs and policies," says Richard Yerema, Managing Editor of the Canada's Top 100 Employers project.
Now in its 11th year, Hamilton-Niagara's Top Employers is a special designation that recognizes employers in greater Hamilton and the Niagara region that lead their industries in offering exceptional places to work. Employers were evaluated by the editors at Canada's Top 100 Employers using the same criteria as the national competition: (1) Physical Workplace; (2) Work Atmosphere & Social; (3) Health, Financial & Family Benefits; (4) Vacation & Time Off; (5) Employee Communications; (6) Performance Management; (7) Training & Skills Development; and (8) Community Involvement. Employers are compared to other organizations in their field to determine which offer the most progressive and forward-thinking programs. The annual competition is open to any employer with its head office in the Hamilton-Niagara area, and employers of any size may apply, whether private or public sector.
