TORONTO, June 10, 2015 /CNW/ - Re:Sound, Canada's not-for-profit music licensing company dedicated to obtaining fair compensation for artists and record companies for their performance rights, is pleased to announce the election of Mr. Peter Steinmetz to the position of Chairperson of Re:Sound's Board of Directors.
Mr. Steinmetz has been a leading figure in the Canadian music industry spanning several decades as an entertainment lawyer and as a board member or Chairperson of many key industry organisations. After starting a successful music industry practice in 1970, Mr. Steinmetz went on to serve several terms as Managing Partner of Toronto law firm Cassels Brock & Blackwell and was appointed Queens Counsel in 1983. During his tenure he represented a wide range of clients in the entertainment field, including artists, labels and industry organisations.
Mr. Steinmetz's extensive board experience includes: President of the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences and the Executive Producer of the Juno Awards (1983 – 1992); Chairperson of the Board of the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame (2005-2009); and Vice-Chairperson of the Ontario Media Development Corporation (1995 – 2010).

Mr. Steinmetz will be joining existing Re:Sound board members: Annie Morin (ARTISTI), Graham Henderson (CONNECT), Stuart Johnston (CIMA), Lyette Bouchard (SOPROQ), Brad Keenan (ACTRA RACS) and David Jandrisch (MROC).
