Response to 2018 Ontario Budget: A Plan for Care and Opportunity
OTTAWA, March 31, 2018 /CNW/ - On Wednesday, the Government of Ontario tabled a Budget with a significant increase in the Developmental Services Sector's budget. Ottawa-Carleton Association for Persons with Developmental Disabilities (OCAPDD), Ottawa-Carleton Lifeskills (OCL) and Ottawa Rotary Home (ORH) applaud the Government for the announced additional $1.8 billion over the next three years. These additional funds will stabilize the sector, while also preparing it for expansion.
The announced increase in Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) rates by 3% in each of the next three years, while also increasing the amount of employment income that an individual can earn without impacting the benefits they receive will also assist people to improve their quality of life.
The Government's acknowledgement of the importance of strengthening the operating capacity of community based organizations through the announced increase in operating budgets by $200 million over the next three years is well received.
"OCAPDD, OCL and ORH are very pleased that the Government has heard the concerns communicated by our organizations and the sector over the recent past, and have acted in such a decisive manner to invest in both the individuals being supported by us, their families and in the organizations to allow us to continue to provide support to Ontario's most vulnerable citizens" was a joint statement issued by Dave Ferguson Executive Director of OCAPDD, Jocelyne Paul Executive Director of OCL, and Gina St. Amour Executive Director of ORH. "The three organizations look forward to working with the Ministry of Community & Social Services to address the ongoing needs of our community and the DS Sector."

The three community based organizations provide service to 1,200 people living with a developmental disability in Ottawa and Cornwall. Combined, they employ 800 people to support to some of the most vulnerable citizens in the community.
