Results in for World's Largest Female Hockey Festival
Teams from Canada, USA, Czech Republic and Mexico all leave 'Wickfest' winners
CALGARY, Nov. 30, 2015 /CNW/ - Last weekend 2,000 young women came together for the 6th annual Canadian Tire World Female Hockey Festival. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to compete and learn from the some of the most elite athletes, sports personalities and trainers in the world took place at seven rinks in and around Calgary.
Hayley Wickenheiser, four-time Olympic gold medalist, played host to these young women, inspiring them to hone and develop their skill and love for hockey. Also on hand were hockey and sport legends such as Brian Burke, Hockey Operations for the Calgary Flames; Kelsey Andries, World Female Muay Thai Champion; Meaghan Mikkelson and Tessa Bonhomme, both Hayley's gold medal teammates from previous Olympic games; and more.
Players from ages 8 to 18 from across Canada, U.S.A, Czech Republic and Mexico came together for some high-level team competition. Results from the competition are as follows:

"This festival was more than just getting teams together to play hockey. Through workshops and clinics it helps the players understand the concept of the total athlete—mind, body, athletic ability, community—and also the support they have off the ice," says Wickenheiser. "They all leave Wickfest winners. We want the girls to see the possibilities, to be inspired to push harder and accomplish more… because they can."
'WickFest,' as the tournament has endearingly been coined, also helps raise awareness and funds for two organizations very near and dear to Wickenheiser – Right To Play and JumpStart.
