RIVIÈRE-DU-LOUP, QC, March 26, 2018 /CNW Telbec/ - The Rivière-du-Loup / Saint-Siméon Ferry will begin its 55th season on Thursday March 29. The Trans Saint-Laurent ferryboat was kept warm in dry dock part of the winter for its quinquennial inspection, then headed off to the Port of Québec for its yearly maintenance.
"We are proud to see that despite its 55 summers, the boat is still in good shape, thanks to the strict maintenance it is subjected to each year", says Serge‑Martin Denis, general manager.
The Trans Saint-Laurent ferryboat is now an activity in itself. In 2017, the focused efforts on on-board activities paid off. The pilot project of animation by a marine technology technician from the Marine Mammal Observation Network was a great success. "We plan to improve this offer, which enhance the passengers' knowledge of the marine environment", adds Mr. Denis.
Significant ridership growth
Transport companies are also increasingly using the ferry, which allows them to save time and money. Here's proof: in 2017, heavy haul experienced a significant increase of 31%. Same observation for motorhomes, with a 32% increase.
The Ferry also plan to promote the attractions on both shores, inviting people of the North Shore to participate in the South Shore activities, and vice versa.
In 2017, 136 389 passengers and 60 842 vehicles crossed from one shore to the other aboard the Trans Saint-Laurent. Day trips for passengers on foot attracted 4 358 people.
The Rivière-du-Loup / Saint-Siméon Ferry ranks among the 3 critical activities to do in Rivière-du-Loup on Trip Advisor. Full schedule available online at www.traverserdl.com.
