Retail Council of Canada honours Bill McEwan with Lifetime Achievement Award
TORONTO, April 10, 2012 /CNW/ - Retail Council of Canada (RCC) announced today that Bill McEwan, President & Chief Executive Officer of Sobeys Inc., will be honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award.

"Over his 40 years in the industry, Bill's visionary leadership, driven by his passion for the grocery business, has inspired all those who have had the opportunity to work with him. His business success is only exceeded by the inspiration and influence he has had on the countless individuals he has worked with throughout his career."
The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes a senior executive with a minimum of 25 consecutive years of retail service who has demonstrated outstanding business success and community service throughout his/her career. Winners are visionaries who have left an indelible mark on the industry through their innovations and commitment to customers and employees. The recipient is recognized as a retail role model, as an icon in the industry, and one who has dedicated his/her business life to retail.
The Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Mr. McEwan at the Excellence in Retailing Awards gala dinner on Monday, June 4, 2012. The gala dinner, part of STORE 2012 - Canada's Retail Conference, will take place at the Toronto Congress Centre from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
About Bill McEwan
A native of Trail, British Columbia, Bill McEwan began his career at Ferraro's Ltd., Super Valu Stores and spent 13 years with the company in both British Columbia and Alberta. He has held a variety of senior marketing and merchandising roles in the consumer packaged goods industry with Coca-Cola Limited and in grocery retail with A&P both in Canada and the United States. He served as President of A&P's Canadian operations before his appointment as President and Chief Executive Officer of the company's U.S. Atlantic Region, the position he held immediately prior to joining Sobeys Inc. in 2000.
Mr. McEwan is a member of the Board of Directors of Empire Company Ltd. and the Delhaize Group. He serves on the Board of Directors of the global Consumer Goods Forum and previously on the Boards of the Canadian Council of Grocery Distributors, the Food Marketing Institute, the Grocery Foundation and Kids Help Phone. He has played an active leadership role in a number of industry and charitable organizations and was recognized as National Volunteer of the Year by Kids Help Phone in 1999. Mr. McEwan is a past recipient of the Golden Pencil Award, the Canadian grocery industry's highest honour, and the Robert Beaudry Award of Excellence for leadership in the grocery industry.
