Revised date for inquest into the death of Chum Yim announced

TORONTO, April 12 /CNW/ - Dr. James Edwards, Regional Supervising Coroner for Central Region, Toronto East Office, today announced that the inquest into the death of Chum Yim began on April 12, 2010, and is ongoing. It was originally reported to begin on April 23, 2010.
Mr. Yim, 31, died on November 18, 2007, after being taken into custody by officers of the Toronto Police Service. An inquest is mandatory under the Coroners Act.
The inquest is examining the events surrounding Mr. Yim's death and the jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.
The inquest is expected to last approximately one week.
The inquest is being held at the Toronto Coroners Courts, 15 Grosvenor Street.
Dr. Bonnie Burke is the presiding inquest coroner and Mr. Michael Blain is counsel to the coroner.
