Rexall Welcomes Expanded Scope of Practice for Pharmacists to Administer 13 More Vaccinations

Shingles vaccine now available at neighbourhood pharmacies in Ontario

MISSISSAUGA, ON, Dec. 15, 2016 /CNW/ - Rexall pharmacists in Ontario are now permitted to administer 13 more vaccinations that prevent shingles, hepatitis and cervical cancer, as well as several vaccines to people that are travelling overseas.

One of the most common viral illnesses that adults can suffer from is shingles. In fact, it is estimated that 1 in 3 adults over the age of 50 will get shingles in their lifetime. Shingles is caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox. The chickenpox virus remains in the body after healing and can lay dormant for many years. The most common trigger for the virus to re-appear is stress or when the body's immune system is weak. Adults over the age of 50 are eligible to ask their family physician for a prescription for the shingles vaccine, take it to their local pharmacy to have it filled and administered in just one visit.
