TORONTO, Nov. 9, 2015 /CNW/ - For the Franken family of Teeswater, showing goats is a family affair and winning ribbons is habit-forming. Frankenhaven Dairy Goats took home 20 ribbons from the 2015 Royal Agricultural Winter Fair (RAWF) – in just about every colour. But their greatest source of pride are their two Grand Champions, one Reserve Champion and three Best Udder placings.
"This is one of our better years," admits Adrian Franken, one of seven children who, along with their parents, show goats at The Royal. "We are always competitive." The family began showing goats in 2001 as a way to improve and advertise their breeding stock.
"The Royal is the biggest show," Adrian continues. "It's good advertising for our herd."
The Franken family entered the goat business in 1999 and now milk 750 animals. The bulk of their milk production is made into cheese.
"Goats are great to work with," Adrian comments. "They are a warm and happy animal."
The Royal is supported in part by the City of Toronto and the Province of Ontario.
The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair is the world's largest combined indoor agricultural and equestrian show. This year, the 93rd Royal Agricultural Winter Fair runs November 6-15, 2015 at Exhibition Place, Toronto.
