Richmond North Walmart Supercentre Celebrates Grand Opening
RICHMOND, BC, Oct. 26, 2016 /CNW/ - The new Richmond North Walmart Supercentre, located at Central at Garden City mall at 9251 Alderbridge Way, will officially grand open to the community on Thursday, October 27. The 163,000-square-foot store features a new layout, an updated colour scheme and a broad assortment of fresh groceries, general merchandise, and convenient services available at Walmart's low prices every day. Local officials and media are invited to attend the grand opening at 7 a.m. Doors will open to the public at 8 a.m.
One-stop shopping
"Our Richmond North Walmart Supercentre provides Richmond families with access to quality, fresh food, and a new grocery shopping experience," said Store Manager Martin van Roijen. "We are very excited to open the store in time for the holiday season and look forward to proudly serving our customers in Richmond who appreciate and rely on Walmart's low prices every day and one-stop shopping convenience."
Customers can also enjoy on-site services and licensees such as a full-service pharmacy, photo kiosks, Regal Nails nail salon and Western Union.
Committed to local
The Richmond North Walmart Supercentres carries Canadian No. 1 grade fruits and vegetables such as BC-grown apples, squash and potatoes, to name just a few, and the goal is to source all available seasonal local produce when available. The store also carries an expanded selection of organic produce and a line of Canadian-certified organic products called Great Value Organic. Fresh meats include 100% Canadian Angus beef, chicken, pork and salmon and all fresh groceries come with a 100% satisfaction, money back guarantee.
Store of the community
Walmart's 'Store of the Community' program uses data to identify multicultural population clusters around stores and tailor merchandise selections to the specific needs of the local communities and customers. The Richmond North Supercentre in partnership with Al Premium will offer customers a larger assortment of international produce, baked goods and grocery items. AI Premium Food Mart is a purveyor of foods from 14 different countries all over the world including China, India and the Caribbean. Added shopping convenience
The Walmart mobile app for iPhone and Android makes shopping at Walmart.ca easier and faster than ever. Customers can create shopping lists, check weekly ads and prices, and shop Walmart.ca through the app.
New jobs
Martin van Roijen is excited to lead the Richmond North Walmart Supercentre team as the store manager. Roijen is originally from British Columbia and has worked in retail for close to three decades.
The store employs approximately 240 full- and part-time associates and received close to 2,000 job applications for the in-store positions. Applicants interested in careers at Walmart can apply at www.walmart.ca/careers.
Leader in sustainability
Whether challenging vendors to reduce packaging, eliminating waste in stores, or showcasing environmentally preferable products for customers, Walmart is committed more than ever to achieving zero waste. Walmart's supercentre design features LED exterior signage, sandwich bales to divert waste from landfill sites, high efficiency coolers and freezers, to name just a few. Earlier this year, the company also stopped providing free plastic bags to customers in BC to promote the use of reusable bags and ultimately eliminate plastic film from landfill.
Community giving
To celebrate today's grand opening, Walmart Canada will present a cheque to the Richmond Minor Hockey Association and the Walmart Foundation will make a $100,000 donation to Quest Food Exchange.
A big welcome
The celebration continues on Saturday, October 29 with a grand opening party. From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., customers will enjoy fun family activities, live music, and samples.
