Rights and Freedoms Award: Promoting Youth Rights Excellence Français

MONTREAL, April 16, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - The Commission des droits de la personne et des droits de la jeunesse is pleased to announce the call for nomination for the Rights and Freedoms Award which is presented annually since 1988.
This year, in order to highlight the 25th anniversary of Convention of the Rights of the Child, the Rights and Freedom Award will be given to an organization or an individual that works to promote and defend youth rights.
"I invite any person or organization to submit a nomination to recognize an individual or organization's significant contribution to the advancement of youth rights in Québec", said Jacques Frémont, president of the Commission.
The Award is presented to an organization, a business, an institution or an individual:
- Whose commitment respects the principles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the rights guaranteed by the Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms;
- Who advocates for youth rights;
- Who has demonstrated exceptional leadership in promoting and defending youth rights;
- Who carried out a project or activity to raise youth awareness related to the protection and respect of their rights.
The Award will be presented during a ceremony on Thursday November 20, 2014, Universal Children's Day which is the date the United Nations adopted the Convention.
How to submit a nomination
The Commission accepts nominations submitted by e-mail or mail until Monday June 23, 2014, at 4 p.m. For more information on how to submit a nomination or to learn more about the past recipients: http://www.cdpdj.qc.ca/pdl
The jury of the 2014 Rights and Freedom Award is chaired by the vice-president of the Commission, Camil Picard. The members are Marly Périclés of the Commission's Table de concertation jeunesse and another youth that will be named shortly.
