OTTAWA, Aug. 25, 2017 /CNW/ - Statement by Cannabis Canada Association on the regulatory system for medical cannabis.
The medical cannabis industry is strictly regulated. Our first priority is to ensure that the health and safety of clients is protected. While no industry wants a recall, the fact they have occurred is evidence that the system is working to identify, and where necessary respond to the presence of unapproved contaminants - unlike what occurs in the unregulated black market.
Licensed Producers of medical cannabis will continue to subject their products to rigorous testing. In the event that a quality issue is discovered, advanced seed-to-sale tracking mechanisms will be used to support effective recalls.
Moving forward, our industry will continue to work with Health Canada on an ongoing basis to refine and comply with regulations and testing protocols. This will include proactively exploring which substances should be part of required testing protocols, and what levels they should be tested for.
Cannabis Canada and Canada's Licensed Producers are committed to ensuring the safety of Canadian patients and the continuous improvement of the legal medical cannabis industry while remaining the world's gold standard for regulated safety.
