MONTREAL, Dec. 11, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - Rio Tinto Alcan is proud to make a corporate contribution of $900,000 to Centraide of Greater Montreal following a company fundraising campaign at Rio Tinto Alcan's Montreal office from 22 October to 10 December, 2012.
"Again this year, employees and retirees of Rio Tinto Alcan's Montreal office contributed generously to this campaign," said Jacynthe Côté, chief executive, Rio Tinto Alcan. "Poverty and social exclusion are a serious problem in our society, and we all have a duty to support the development of a strong network that can make a real difference," she added.
Over the last 10 years, Rio Tinto Alcan has given more than $9 million to Centraide of Greater Montreal through voluntary contributions from employees and retirees as well as the Rio Tinto Alcan Canada Fund. Rio Tinto Alcan matched the total amount of employee and retiree donations by 150 per cent, thus increasing the contribution to Centraide by nearly $550,000
Community involvement is a central value for Rio Tinto Alcan which is why the Group supports Centraide's efforts helping disadvantaged people in the greater Montreal area and thorugh significant financial contribution to the organization. Centraide deals with major social issues and provides vital assistance to nearly 500,000 vulnerable people served by the 370 organizations within Centraide's network in Montréal, Laval and the South Shore. By donating to Centraide, Rio Tinto Alcan contributes to implementing effective poverty-fighting strategies and supports local initiatives.
