Rio Tinto Alcan invites the public to discover the rhythms of the Montreal International Jazz Festival Français
MONTREAL, June 4, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - Rio Tinto Alcan invites the public to come to the Montreal International Jazz Festival and enjoy the rhythms of the world's best jazz. From 28 June to 7 July, renowned and emerging artists from around the globe will be performing. Music, along with family and educational activities, are all part of the fun!
"As a co-presenter of outdoor shows, Rio Tinto Alcan gives everyone an opportunity to discover the best jazz musicians, for free. Our partnership with the Montreal International Jazz Festival started nearly 30 years ago, and we are proud to continue that tradition today," said Erik Ryan, Senior Vice-President of Communications and External Affairs, Rio Tinto Alcan, during the unveiling of the 2013 program held at the Maison du Festival Rio Tinto Alcan.
Rio Tinto Alcan supports the educational mission of the Montreal International Jazz Festival, as well as the different educational programs that revolve around the musical experience. This one-of-a-kind event fosters the development of a sense of belonging, pride, and self-esteem in young people. "By encouraging motivation and mobilisation in our youth, we increase their chances of staying in school," added Mr. Ryan.
The Montreal International Jazz Festival, in collaboration with Rio Tinto Alcan, initiated the Samajam stay-in-school project: À mon école, je garde le rythme, which aims to encourage young people to stay in school and discouraging them from dropping out. Over the past four years, through free percussion lessons in Montreal schools, nearly 4,500 students from underprivileged areas have been reached by the program. Samajam workshops will be held on weekends at Complexe Desjardins, immediately following La Petite École de Jazz.
