Rio Tinto Alcan strengthens its support for family-oriented activities at the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal
MONTREAL, June 3, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - As co-presenter of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, Rio Tinto Alcan is proud to continue its support for family and educational activities offered during the largest jazz festival in the world. From 26 June to 6 July, the public is invited to bring the whole family and enjoy hundreds of free outdoor shows.
"For Rio Tinto Alcan, presenting the free outdoor concerts and supporting the educational mission of the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, as well as its youth-oriented activities is our way to offer families a destination where everyone can have fun and learn through music. The youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow, and education is key in ensuring the wealth and success of our society", said Alexis Segal, vice president, communications and external relations, Rio Tinto Alcan.
As part of the new family activities offered at this year's Festival, we are pleased to introduce the Club Famille Rio Tinto Alcan, an initiative certain to thrill children and parents alike. This venue, located on l'Esplanade de la Place des Arts, will include a kid-friendly snack bar, picnic area, an animation centre, and a lounge. While on site, look for the Zone Famille Rio Tinto Alcan signage to guide you wherever family-oriented activities are held.
Of course, festival favourites such as the Parc musical Rio Tinto Alcan and the Petite école du jazz at the Complexe Desjardins will be returning again this year. These locations provide free access to games, face painting and crafts, as well as other educational activities involving music, to younger festival-goers. Not to be forgotten, a visit to the Maison du Festival Rio Tinto Alcan, the Festival's year-round home, and the Rio Tinto Alcan stage, where emerging artists from around the globe will perform.
As part of its educational mission, the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal, in collaboration with Rio Tinto Alcan, initiated the Hook on School Project with Samajam five years ago. Through this program, free percussion lessons are offered to nearly 2,900 students from underprivileged areas in Montreal schools, helping reduce the absenteeism rate and promote stay-in-school initiatives. Samajam will hold workshops on weekends, immediately following La Petite École de Jazz.
To commemorate your visit at the Festival's 35th anniversary, stop by the Rio Tinto Alcan photo booth conveniently located on Saint-Catherine Street.
Last but not least, with our support, the Festival International de Jazz de Montréal was one of the first large-scale North American events to become carbon neutral and we are proud to continue helping make the Festival greener every year.
