Peel P50 is proof that you can get BIG fun out of a tiny car
NIAGARA FALLS, ON, Feb. 9, 2015 /CNW/ - In a sea of exotic, prototype and classic cars, the most unusual of all the vehicles on display at the Canadian International AutoShow might be the one belonging to Ripley's Believe It or Not!.
Ripley's will be putting one of its Peel P50 cars on display at the show. This microcar is usually on display at Ripley's Niagara Falls Odditorium and is one of several Peel cars in Ripley's collection of unusual automobiles.
The Peel P50 is a three-wheeled microcar so small that it makes a Smart car seem more like a Surburban. The P50 is a mere 54 inches long, 40 inches wide and weighs in at just 175 pounds! It has earned the title of the smallest assembly-line manufactured street-legal car ever built. The original Peel P50's were built in the early to mid-1960's on the Isle of Man, and modern replica versions were released in 2010.
The P50 on display at the auto show was custom built for Ripley's. It is powered by a 4 horsepower electric motor and has two forward speeds, plus a reverse gear. It has a top speed of 45 kph (28 mph) - watch out Ford GT!
Not only can people see the Ripley's P50 car at the show, they can also drive it. There will be an indoor test track where people (who can fit in the car!) can take it for a spin. The test drives will be free, but will only be available to licensed drivers.
Ripley's Niagara Falls Odditorium, located at 4960 Clifton Hill in Niagara Falls, is open 365 days a year. For hours and ticket info, please call 905-356-2238 or visit www.ripleys.com/niagarafalls.
