CALGARY, March 20, 2014 /CNW/ - The Town of Cochrane has recently approved a unique pilot project in the Tamani Communities' development of Riviera in Riversong, Cochrane, Alberta.
Two residential wind-powered turbines have been erected as a part of Riviera's environmental initiative plan. "The small scale, vertical axis, wind turbines are low impact, very quiet and look more like a sculpture than a typical wind turbine, which is a good fit for Riviera. We ordered them in black to match the street furniture in the community," Cam Hart, Tamani's General Manager stated. This forward-thinking technology uses distributed wind generation, a process that requires the turbines to be installed in close proximity to the amenities that require the energy. As a result, the virtually silent wind turbines, are located in a community green space, near the local playground so the surrounding LED streetlights are always safely in operation. The turbines are a true testament to the community's sustainability efforts - a point of pride for the homeowners.
This technology fits seamlessly into Riviera of Riversong, a development that has an avid focus on sustainability, environmental stewardship and green initiatives. According to Hart, "Riviera is a very special part of the community, nestled between the Bow River on the north and a large, forested, natural area on the south. Sustainability is a key principle of this development."
The Town of Cochrane has adopted a Sustainability Plan, which sets out a framework for achieving various environmental goals within the municipality, including reducing the use of non-renewable resources and promoting environmental stewardship, while balancing social and economic needs.
Tamani has aligned themselves with the Town's sustainability principles by building homes that require a minimum BUILTGREEN Gold standard. BUILTGREEN homes are 3rd party certified, energy efficient and environmentally responsible homes. A BUILTGREEN certification adds intrinsic value to a home through the use of resource-efficient and environmentally friendly construction practices and products.
"Tamani Communities is very excited to provide these significant sustainable initiatives within the community and believe that the natural setting of Riviera helps to further reinforce the importance of this approach to developing communities." says Hart. With the community boasting homes from award winning builders, single family homes by Trico Homes and Jayman MasterBUILT, it is a must see for the discerning, environmentally conscientious home buyer.
