Rockwood Resident to Receive Fire Safety Award
TORONTO, June 16, 2014 /CNW/ - Colin Smith, a resident of Rockwood will receive a Fire Safety Award from the Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council at a ceremony on June 19, 2014 in Toronto. The annual Fire Safety Awards recognize outstanding contributions to fire protection and prevention in Ontario.
When the Guelph/Eramosa Fire Rescue decided to launch a new public education initiative to reach the community residents through social media, they knew just who to contact for help. Smith is a long-time resident of the area and an accomplished video and music editor.
Smith was more than happy to donate his talents to the project and worked with the fire department to bring their messages to life. Smith arranged the storylines and filmed and edited several videos aimed at raising awareness about fire safety issues. The videos were subsequently posted on YouTube, as well as the township and fire department websites. They have also been broadcast on TVCogeco.
"The videos were so successful that Colin's talents are now being sought by numerous other fire departments," said Ted Wieclawek, Chair, Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council. "Colin will be a very busy man, because Guelph/Eramosa Fire Rescue has plans to produce 12 new videos each year, to reach and teach as many people as possible through emerging technologies."
