Voice over LTE technology gives customers access to high quality HD voice and video calls and faster call setup times
VoLTE enabled LG G3 Vigor available today
TORONTO, March 31, 2015 /CNW/ - The next evolution of wireless voice and video calling is here. Today, Rogers Communications turned on Voice over LTE (VoLTE) across Canada, giving customers with a VoLTE device clear, natural sounding voice and video calls. Calls will also connect even faster.
Rogers customers will be the first in Canada to complete HD voice and video calls over a VoLTE network, where available, versus the traditional voice network. HD Voice delivers life-like sound quality. In addition, VoLTE lets customers simultaneously place a call and browse the web or stream video at lightning fast LTE speeds. Traditionally, data is transmitted over the HSPA network when a call is in progress. Because VoLTE relies on the LTE network, calls also connect faster to let customers reach family and friends almost instantly.
"We know our customers lead busy lives and their smartphones help them stay in touch with family and friends. Now customers making voice and video calls will benefit from clear sound quality and the same lightning fast LTE speeds for calls that Rogers delivers to surf the web or stream from your mobile device," said Raj Doshi, executive vice-president, Rogers Communications. "VoLTE will help our customers enjoy rich, multimedia voice services and we are proud to be the first Canadian carrier to offer it."
Rogers VoLTE is now available across Canada and sets the groundwork for rich communications services of the future, including voice and video calls and video sharing. Customers will be able to make and receive HD video calls to and from other Rogers customers on supported devices.
Starting today, Rogers customers will be able to experience VoLTE on the LG G3 Vigor, Canada's first VoLTE-enabled device. More VoLTE-ready devices are expected this year.
