Canadian brand responds to increased demand in China and Taiwan
BEIJING, Jan. 23, 2015 /CNW/ - As part of its growing success in Asia, Roots officially opened its first flagship store in Beijing today. Co-Founders Michael Budman and Don Green traveled from Toronto to take part in the festive inauguration of the store, which also featured a special fashion show of Roots apparel and leather goods.
Among those attending the event were Canada's Ambassador to China Guy Saint-Jacques, popular Chinese TV host and musician Kelly Cha, many local VIPs and a large contingent of Chinese media.
In addition to the same Roots products available in the company's stores in Canada and the US, the Beijing store features a specialty athletic collection unique to Asia.
"It's extremely gratifying for us to see how much Canada and the Roots brand resonate with the Chinese," says Michael. "The new store in Beijing is an exciting step forward in our expansion in this important market. It wouldn't have been possible without the tremendous work of our Asian partner, Branded Lifestyle. Based on what's happening in both China and Taiwan, the future looks incredibly bright for Roots in Asia."
The new store in Beijing is the largest of the 23 Roots locations in China. Last month, Roots opened its 100th store in Taiwan where it's one of the most popular foreign brands.
