MONTREAL, April 24, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - Lancôme is pleased to present "Rôses by…", an exhibition of exceptional photographs taken by twenty of the world's foremost photographers. The exhibition will be presented as a North American premier during the Luminato Festival in Toronto, in the main lobby of First Canadian Place from June 14th to 20th, 2013.
Lancôme's iconic emblem since it was established in 1935, the rose is a majestic flower. Just like women, it embodies colour and light, freshness and sensuality, birth and maturity, innocence and passion, emotion and seduction all in one.
To celebrate this flower, Lancôme has given carte blanche to twenty international photographers, from Peter Lindbergh to Patrick Demarchelier, Sølve Sundsbø to Nick Knight, in France, the United States, China and England, to create their personal interpretation. Twenty uniquely talented artists, all of whom have fostered a close relationship with Lancôme over the years. The end result is twenty works, in colour or black and white, which are powerful or moving, hyperrealistic or symbolic, but always sublime!
The scenography of "Rôses by…" is designed by the Frenchman Joseph Dirand, an award-winning young architect. His work, a fusion of architectural recollections of the past with abstract minimalism, has made him one of the major figures in a new French classicism. Dirand has taken a contemporary approach to his design, creating a space halfway between a box and an Haussmannian apartment, sparse and white on the outside, with grey moulding on the inside.
"We are honoured that twenty of the greatest photographers, all of whom have a connection with Lancôme, have accepted our invitation to interpret Lancôme's emblem, the rose," comments Youcef S. Nabi, Lancôme President. "Rôses by…' awakens the senses and poses questions concerning the concept of beauty. It will, I hope, contribute to the world of the arts and at the same time add an exciting chapter to Lancôme's story."
The twenty photographers in the "Rôses by…" exhibition are:
Ruven Afanador, Jeff Burton, Patrick Demarchelier, Koichiro Doi, Nathaniel Goldberg, Dominique Issermann, Nick Knight, Brigitte Lacombe, Peter Lindbergh, Jennifer Lund, Eric Maillet, Chen Man, Raymond Meier, Tom Munro, Josh Olins, Dusan Reljin, Mark Segal, Carter Smith, Sølve Sundsbø, Warren&Nick.
After touring the world, the "Roses by…" exhibition will make a final stop in Toronto and will be presented in the main lobby of First Canadian Place, from June 14th to 20th, 2013 for the very last time.
Lancôme, French excellence
Founded in 1935 by the visionary pioneer Armand Petitjean, with the aim of developing the spirit and taste of France the world over, Lancôme immediately embodied the two constants of a modern beauty brand: complementarity between perfume, beauty care and make-up and the need to address an international clientele. Today, the brand is present in 130 countries, with 20,000 beauty advisers in as many points of sale relaying this message of French excellence, combining sophisticated services with iconic products (Trésor, L'Absolu Rouge, Génifique, Teint Miracle, Visionnaire, La vie est belle etc.).
Since its creation, Lancôme has confirmed that women's beauty goes beyond appearances. It's a skin-deep emotion, awakening every sense. The brand's aim is to offer every woman the possibility to flourish, to sublimate her beauty and femininity, whatever her age and whatever her skin colour, by giving her the best of science with major innovations that have marked their epoch.
As a French luxury cosmetics house, represented by glowing ambassadresses (Julia Roberts, Kate Winslet, Penelope Cruz, etc.), Lancôme is just like a woman: radiant and captivating, touching and gentle. Sublime.
Lancôme is a division of L'Oréal Canada, a wholly-owned subsidiary of L'Oréal Group, the largest cosmetics company in the world. Headquartered in Montreal, L'Oréal Canada had sales of over $900 million in 2012 and employs more than 1,200 people. The company's prestigious portfolio of over 25 brands encompasses all aspects of beauty.
