TORONTO, May 31, 2012 /CNW/ - Major League All-Star and World Series hero Joe Carter is coming home to Toronto for his third annual celebrity golf tournament. The Joe Carter Classic brings to the city world renowned sports and entertainment figures who join avid golfers in helping Joe raise awareness and funds, benefitting the Children's Aid Foundation.
"I'm very proud and humbled by the generosity of those who have donated their time, money and efforts towards the success of this tournament," said tournament host Joe Carter. "In just two years we've raised more than $250,000 to help disadvantaged children and youth through the Children's Aid Foundation. And this year we have an ambitious goal of doubling that amount."
The third annual event will see the return of celebrity fan-favourites, Charles Barkley, Ray Bourque, Julius "Dr. J" Erving, Kelly Gruber, Cito Gaston and Gordie Howe. "We're also excited for a number of new golfers to join the tournament this summer," said James Dodds, event co-chair. "Additions for 2012 include, Doug Gilmour, Ian Leggatt, Lennox Lewis, Anthony Anderson and Mitch 'Wild Thing' Williams - who will make his first public appearance with Joe in Canada since they met in the '93 World Series."
"The funds raised by the Joe Carter Classic offer a lifeline to so many youth and their families in the child welfare system," said Len Gamache, president of the Children's Aid Foundation. "We're proud to partner with Joe and our tournament sponsors in working to extend the reach of our programs aimed at supporting youth and strengthening the family environment."
