Chef, restaurateur, and MasterChef Canada judge Michael Bonacini to appear on the competition's judging panel
TORONTO, Sept. 22, 2014 /CNW/ - One of Canada's most-prominent restaurateurs, and a judge on CTV's MasterChef Canada, will lend his discerning palette to a new competition at The Royal Agricultural Winter Fair this fall where top North American chefs will put their culinary talents on the table.
Bonacini, currently a judge on MasterChef Canada and co-founder of Oliver & Bonacini Restaurants, will sit on the judging panel for The Royal International Invitational Chef Challenge on Sunday, November 9.
The Royal has expanded on its annual Chef Challenge to create a more international flavour, challenging chefs from New York City and Chicago to compete against culinary experts from Toronto-area fine-dining establishments.
"We're thrilled that Michael has agreed to join us and help kick off this new event," said Sandra Banks, CEO of The Royal. "It's really exciting to have top international chefs and celebrity chefs involved in the competition because our audiences expect to see the best of the best compete when they come to The Royal."
Ben Mulroney, co-anchor of CTV's ETALK, Canada's #1 entertainment show, will return to The Royal this fall to co-host the new cooking competition. Also sharing hosting duties for the event will be award-winning chef and author Ted Reader — known as one of Canada's top barbecue authorities.
Joining Bonacini on the judging panel will be Rita DeMontis, Lifestyle and Food Editor for The Toronto Sun and National Food Editor for Sun Media.
Chefs competing in the inaugural international event include:
"This will be a great event for food lovers to see some of the best chefs in Canada and the U.S. compete against each other as they showcase their creativity and passion for food," said Banks.
