Lucky Loonies being sent to communities as thanks for supporting their medal-winning athletes
OTTAWA, Feb. 24, 2014 /CNW/ - The Royal Canadian Mint is proud to congratulate Team Canada for its many accomplishments at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics Games, earning an outstanding 25 medals.
"Our athletes made Canadians from coast to coast to coast extremely proud during a riveting 16 days of competition," said Ian E. Bennett, President and CEO of the Royal Canadian Mint. "As we reflect on their achievements, the Mint recognizes that such success also belongs to each athlete's community, whether it be family, friends, teammates or coaches, who have supported them on their remarkable journey".
The Mint is pleased to announce that a 2014 Lucky Loonie displayed in a special commemorative frame will be sent to each medalist's hometown* later this week to highlight their commitment to Canada's athletes. This special keepsake will also serve as a reminder of the world-class performances delivered during the Games.
