OTTAWA, March 6, 2014 /CNW/ - Canada's vast landscapes and abundant wildlife continue to inspire new collector coins from the Royal Canadian Mint. From colourful pintail ducks to the deep blue waters of Lake Ontario, a thriving variety of Canadian themes has been captured in a variety of trademark Mint techniques; from meticulous engraving to advanced paint and enamel applications.
"The Mint is continuously inspired by Canada's rich natural, cultural and historical heritage by which our country is known around the world," said Ian E. Bennett, President and CEO of the Royal Canadian Mint. "We are delighted that these themes not only allow us to tell new stories of Canada through beautiful new coins, but also showcase our craftsmanship and innovation."
After launching many popular bird-themed coins, including a new series of duck-inspired coins started in 2013, the Mint is introducing new $10 fine silver and 25-cent cupronickel coloured coins featuring the distinctive blue-billed pintail duck. Building on that theme is a new pure gold 50-cent coin featuring the osprey, as well as other wildlife species on the following collectibles:
- "The Wolverine" $20 fine silver and $25 pure gold coins;
- "The Bison: The Bull and his Mate" $20 fine silver coin; and
- "The Eastern Chipmunk" 25-cent, half-gram pure gold coin.
Other impressions of Canada can be found on the second coin from the blue-enameled Great Lakes $20 fine silver series (Lake Ontario); new O Canada $10 and $25 fine silver coins celebrating the great outdoor sport of downhill skiing; the third coin in the Tradition of Hunting $5 fine silver series; and the specially-wrapped annual 50-cent uncirculated coin roll.
