Royal Society for Public Health Programme Highlights University of Liverpool Online Master of Public Health Degree
LIVERPOOL, England, Nov. 8, 2016 /CNW/ -- The Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH) featured the University of Liverpool's online APHEA-accredited Master of Public Health (MPH) in a new film of news-style reports: Championing the Public's Health. The programme highlights the unique ability of the online MPH to equip healthcare professionals from around the world with the skills and knowledge they need to make a difference in their local communities. It also emphasises the online programme's flexibility and collaborative approach, which allows healthcare professionals to combine work and study, while also being able to apply what they have learnt immediately, benefiting the whole community.
"Public health professionals need to address health inequalities within their communities, regardless of where they are based. Through the University of Liverpool's fully online platform, MPH students are part of a global classroom that enables them to learn and share best practices, while simultaneously being able to apply their new knowledge and skills straightaway, and having a direct impact on the important public health challenges facing their local communities," said Dr Francine Watkins, Senior Lecturer in Public Health and Director of the University of Liverpool's Master of Public Health programmes.
Featuring interviews with Liverpool MPH graduates and staff members, Championing the Public's Health emphasises the benefits of health professionals from around the world coming together in an online classroom to share ideas and explore new concepts in a collaborative learning environment. Online MPH graduate Najma Ahmed describes how she was able to transfer her classroom knowledge directly to the field to help train healthcare workers in Somalia. Fayyaz Samji, also an MPH graduate, explains how he used the health promotions techniques he learned from his global classmates in his daily work with young people in Canada.
"It is a great honour to be part of this film. Completing the online Master of Public Health degree at the University of Liverpool has helped me open doors to new opportunities and work experiences. I have also been able to advance my career in the public health and social services industry by putting into practice various theoretical frameworks, models and strategies that I learned during my studies," Fayyaz said.
The programme also notes the connections between the online MPH and Professor Dame Margaret Whitehead's work on health inequalities. Head of the University of Liverpool's Department of Public Health & Policy, Margaret Whitehead was awarded a damehood in the UK's 2016 New Year's Honours List for her services to public health. She was honoured for her outstanding contribution to society's understanding of health inequalities, with a significant influence on public health internationally.
Championing the Public's Health was produced in partnership by the RSPH and ITN Productions and features key industry interviews and news-style reports along with sponsored editorial profiles. It debuted at the RSPH Awards 2016: Championing the Public's Health, held on 27 October 2016 at the Royal College of Surgeons in London.
