Running in the Upcoming School Elections - Anyone who Wishes to Run can be Authorized Immediately Français
QUÉBEC CITY, Jan. 15, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - The Chief Electoral Officer of Québec, Jacques Drouin, would like to inform those who would like to run in the November 2 school elections that they can be authorized immediately by the returning officer of their school board. This authorization enables them especially to receive contributions or incur loans to finance their political activities. During the 2007 school general elections, candidates received a total of $747,000 in contributions incurred loans for a total of $336,000 and filed returns showing total election expenses of more than $1,045 million.
The Act Respecting School Elections states that from January 1st of an election year, an elector who would like to run as a candidate can apply for authorization to the Chief Electoral Officer of Québec who has delegated his power of authorization to the returning officer.
Anyone who has the right to be entered on the list of electors of the school board where he or she intends to run and who, on polling day, has been domiciled on the territory of the school board for at least six months, can run in the school election of November 2, 2014. It is possible to seek a commissioner's position and, for the first time, to run for the office of school board Chairman.
